FAQS: Non-traditional High School Diploma Program
What do I need to enroll?
- State or government issued ID or passport
Can someone else register me?
- No, student enrolling in the program must be present at time of enrollment.
Do I need a Social Security Card?
- No, as long as you have a state or government issued ID or passport
Can I transfer credits from a previous high school?
- You may request a transcript evaluation to determine if credits are transferable.
What curriculum will I use?
- Our curriculum was designed by educational professionals with over 50 years of experience in the educational field. The curriculum follows the recommended standards set forth by the Texas Educational Agency. Participants are required to take course in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Good Citizenship and Electives.
In this program can I work at my own pace?
- You can work at your own pace, but please note that our programs is designed for six months.
Can I go to college or a university after finishing school?
- Yes, we have many students going on to college after graduation. Texas law recognizes diplomas awarded by home schools as equal to a traditional high school diploma. Texas law allows the recipients of home school diplomas to attend any community college or university located in Texas. You will need to take an entrance exams, just as any student would, and from those exams, the college/university will recommend what classes you need to take. If you are concerned about being accepted, you may want to contact the college/university before enrolling with us. Note – You will want to mention we are an alternative home school program. If you are planning to attend a trade school after high school, contact the trade school to see if they will accept your transcript before you enroll with us. However, we do not guarantee acceptance into trade or technical schools. If you are planning to attend an on-line university after high school, contact the university to see if they will accept your transcripts before you enroll with us. Some on-line universities require the GED test as an entrance exam.
Is your program recognized by the State of Texas?
- Alternative Home School programs are recognized by Texas Legislature House Bill 944. For more information on House Bill 944 and the Texas Educational Code, please click on the MORE section on top of our website.
Can I join the military after graduating from the program?
- Yes, but you should get in touch with the branch of service that you will be joining and let them know the type of school you are attending and find out if there will be any considerations on this. Some branches of the military require 15 hours of college if you have been home schooled.
Accreditation
- In the State of Texas, home schooling is a valid alternative for obtaining a high school diploma as home schools are recognized by Texas Legislature House Bill 944. However, please note that home schools are not governed by the Texas Educational Agency. For more information on House Bill 944, please see the section located under the MORE button.
Graduation
- Individuals receiving their diploma from South Texas Leadership Center do so after completing their graduation plan. Our graduation plan models the high school graduation plan set forth by the State of Texas.
